Midsummer (Litha) Circle Activity:
A Simple, but Powerful, Midsummer Talisman
from Marc
This activity creates a charm or talisman using the sun to burn
an appropriate sigil, sign, rune, symbol or other representation
that has meaning to you of your intent. Each person should decide
on the symbol in advance and be able to clearly focus on it in
their mind during the creation process.
You only need a magnifying glass, and some wooden "coins", which
can be purchased at a craft or hobby store (and are very inexpensive).
They come is a number of sizes. The silver dollar and quarter sized
ones are the easiest to work with, though the technique could be
applied to larger items and even a group working.
This activity also requires the cooperation of the weather;
enough clear sky so that the sun can do its work.
Begin on Midsummer Day, at Noon with the sun nearly directly
overhead. Take time to breathe and focus on your symbol and
intent before beginning.
Use your magnifying glass to focus the rays of the sun onto the
wooden medallion. You should create as small a point as possible.
Within a few moments, it will start to smoke. Now you may begin
to slowly "draw" your symbol using the magnifying glass. You
will be surprised how quickly this can be performed. The power
of the Sun is indeed great.
Be careful not to burn yourself or anything else as you draw.
It is advised to keep your magnifying glass covered when not in use.
If children are participating, parental supervision is a must!
As you are drawing your symbol, "see" your intent realized within
the talisman you are creating. When you have finished drawing,
the talisman/charm is now ready to be used. Thank the Sun God
for adding his great power to your work.
When the object has done it's work and you feel you no longer
need it, give it back to the Sun God by burning it in a fire
and thanking him for the magickal assistance he has provided.
