Though Circle of the Cosmic Muse has mulled cider in a cauldron over an open fire for Yule ritual, if cider is wanted for an indoor evening, a crock pot works great. It can be kept warm for hours, with guests serving themselves as they wish-just provide a ladle for dipping cider into cups. Mulling cider is easy. Get fresh seasonal apple cider if possible. You need cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and grated orange rind. Cut about a six-inch square of cheesecloth, put the ingredients on it, and gather up the ends of the cheesecloth and tie them into a pouch with yarn or string. This way the spices can easily blend with the cider while also being contained. Put the pouch in crock pot, pour in the cider and simmer while the spices charge the cider with wonderful aroma and taste. Enjoy!
